Safety Policy for Wellesley Youth Football
Much of the national attention for youth sports has turned to the topic of concussion managment. The Wellesley Youth Footnall Board and coaching staff take this topic very seriously. To that end, we have taken the following steps to educate and deliver a protocol for the concussion management and safety.
Practice and Game (return to play policy)
In accordance with Massachusetts Concussion Law, WYF will adhere strictly to the following policy. Should there be signs of a possible concussion, the athlete will be removed from the game or practice immediately and will not be permitted to return without an evaluation and written medical authorzation. There will be no exceptions to this policy!
Education and Awareness
Access to Sports & Physical Therapy
Safety in sports is paramount. In our effort to provide our atheletes and families access to a) educaiton, b) testing and diagnosis of the potential concussion, we have made available at your discretion a highly regarded concussion management program, Sports and Physical Therapy Associates (SPTA), located right in Wellesley. Your child can participate in an initial congnitive tst as a "baseline". In the eent that a concussion is suspected, you may utilize SPTA to do a second cognitive test that can be used to compare to the baseline testing. This will help experts determine if there is a concussion and the safest path back to activity.

Equipment and Uniform Return Policy
All Wellesley Youth Football participants are loaned equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, pants) and jerseys (practice and game). These ar the propert of Wellesley Youth Football, and it is required that all equipment and jerseys be returned at the end of the season. Those players who do not return any equipment and/or jerseys will be charged a replacement fee.
